Thanks for your reply...

AFAIK they are still manufacturing portable drives / media players. although with the rise of netbook / tablet there's probably less of a market for these kind of devices nowadays...

Interesting. Their website no longer seems to exist. (vosonic.com), as I would be interested to see what they have to offer...

b) What is the recommended devices these days for portable photo storage onto a HDD.

expensive portable solution: new Vosonic or Epson model with SSD drive

nice solution: used Vosonic model from Ebay with some 160GB HDD. cheap, sufficient, working just right

Indeed. I do have a laptop, but not what I'm looking for. (It's way too big).

I'm chasing something that I can copy my SD cards to for (a) an onsite backup of my photo's, and if I'm really stretched, to then reuse my memory cards if I run out. (Although I'd prefer not to do this until I have been able to copy them onto a second device later, such as my laptop).

Eyefi is the other option, but that would mean that I'd have to stop using Magic Lantern - and I don't know if I can bring myself to do that.

The Vosonic / Epson / Colorspace are probably more what I'm looking for. I had a very good run with Vosonic, which is why I was looking for them again.

Strange that there are some older models available on ebay, but no website going. I think I'd prefer to have something that's still around (for warranty purposes, or to know that firmware updates will exist if changes need to be made), so I'm tending to lean towards Colorspace at this stage.

Thanks for your posts!
