I know Marianne's credentials. They are exceptional - including a trip to Japan to talk with the Nikon engineers. And yours? Please. I can find nothing about you, who you are, or what you do. She tried to keep it simple - for dummies like me who only have a MS in photography.
However, I won't argue. I will let Marianne do her own.

Steve (if I may call you Steve),
I have had a chance of reading some of Marianne's papers (although some of it is beyond my level) but also observed the way she communicates. She is with now doubt an exceptionally qualified person with an amazing will to help and share her knowledge, the mark of a truly intelligent person. And always in a very humble way.
Nonetheless this thread was created in a very humble way too, asking a question in a very reasonable manner. Having myself a very strong scientific background, I am amazed by your stance that questions should only be asked by someone with a pedigree. The best questions often emanate from people with a different point of view.
But more importantly, I found the way you formulated your answer to be very derogatory without much substance to justify your tone (should anyone be able to justify being derogatory anyway).
Now on the substance of the OP's question, although not having the necessary technical background whatsoever on this point, I can see the logic of the question. And I can imagine that most of us on this forum would be interested in the answer as most if not almost all of us would not be able to answer it. Who knows, there may be some physics that the OP (and us) do not know about that anyway allow the test to be valid, or maybe the question is just missing an important point that would just dismiss its validity...
And I would love to hear Marianne's answer.
I remember most of my professors always saying the same thing to encourage questioning: 'there is never such a thing as a stupid question, there are only stupid answers'
Kind regards,

You are correct! Sometimes I go off half-cocked. I was still trying to wrap my mind around Marianne's complete presentation when I bumped into the headline - and got frustrated. For years I have enjoyed her presentations and admired her intelligence and I was a little quick to judge. My apologies - especially to the OP. I need to keep my powder dry!
