One of the reasons to use Sports Mode on the SX50HS for BIF, is the speed of getting into the mode. I saw this Wood Stork take off 1000 yards or more beyond me, and had time to twist the Control Dial to Sports, zoom out, and get off a sequence of 10 shots as it flew past me. Poor light, but still I am happy to have the shot at all.

Stephen,

Besides liking the image, a very nice capture of movement and form, I also like that it shows that the Sports Mode doesn't always automatically choose too high an ISO, but a good balance between settings. Thanks for the lesson.

I am pretty sure it maximizes shutter speed...and only boosts ISO as high as needed to get that. In good light you can get 1/1000th or above at pretty low ISO.
