The first looks quite baren and stark.  A gate and a road leading to another gate.  The second, a 1970 anything (Volvo I'm guessing) would not have survived if driven in winter in southern Ontario.  The obsession for speed and avoidance of law suits by government results in obscene amounts of salt being dumped on roadways and sidewalks to melt the snow.  It doesn't work in the colder areas of the province so is not used there.  The end result here is that anything driven in winter and more than 10 years old is likely an unsafe rust bucket (or approaching being one).  The damage goes beyond cars as well to bridges and argiculture.
