Sorry for your loss.  Reading the nebulous Canon marketing literature, I see they use phrases like 'enhanced dust-and-weather resistance', and 'the EOS 5D Mark III is designed to perform superbly, even in the most treacherous environments, every time'.  To be honest, without an IPxx rating, those descriptors are virtually meaningless, making the amount of rain or dust 'allowable' subject to wide interpretation.  That's why I never shoot any body (including my 1DX) in the rain without a rain shield.  They are extremely cheap insurance.  Please keep us updated on Canon's response.
