For your stated purposes and price range the Pentax 16-45 f/4 would be the most obvious choice; it is noticeably better than the kit lens at a modest price.  The wide angle will be useful for architecture / landscapes and it has the benefit of relatively little barrel distortion.  For products, whilst the 16-45 is not a macro lens, it does focus close - at 45mm you can have something just about touching the front lens element - so would be fine for your models.

There are buy-it-now examples on ebay (UK) for around £200 UK.
