Shoot Adboe RGB, not sRGB. You will easily go out of gamut with sRGB. If you need sRGB as the final output, convert at the very last stage.

if you're shooting raw, color space shouldn't matter. that setting is just for JPEGs; raw files record all the data coming off the sensor regardless.

If he is using Photoshop he should import as Adobe RGB for post processing. This is set in ACR. Once the NEF is opened in Photoshop, the color space does matter.

If he decides to use Nikon software, the camera setting will be used for the NEF.
