Road Trip -- Washington State

This May, my wife and I are taking our annual 30 Day road trip, this time to Washington State. In the past forum members have been very helpful in suggesting great scenic routes off the main highways. We will use Seattle, where we have a place to stay, as a base and rent a car.

We've done Seattle and the San Juan Islands.  My plan is to take 4-5 day trips to the following areas:

• Coastal Washington
• Columbia Gorge
  
• Olympic National Park
• Palouse region
• Vancouver, BC region (time permitting)

Ideally some one could give us an efficient routing to see the above or other areas, but mostly we are looking for suggestions on the most scenic roads to take and any must see stops.  If there are particular places we should spend a day or two, let us know.  We have absolutely no firm plans and will make no reservations so we could go somewhere for a day, a week or whatever.
