Does not matter what is it. My D300S will produce all of those pictures. No reason to loose money for nothing.

No need to answer if this doesn't matter to you! The dog photos taken at 6400 ISO. I have a D300s but cannot get that same - or similar clarity and detail at 6400. I am glad you can! I like the D300s and not bagging the camera ok? But technology and sensor algorithms have moved on ... I for one once started a thread saying that apart from the 12 FPS or whatever it is people want, I would be interested in a D400 without the anti alias filter - just like the D800E - or Leica M9 or Pentax K5 IIs ... I got a lukewarm response, which is fine with me, no need to jump onto the same bandwagon, but I still think there is more to sensor technology that a bayer pattern @ 12Mpx ... if I liked Sigma better as a whole concept I would have been very interested in the Foveon technology too. To my uneducated eye the removal of the anti alias filter is the next best thing!

"Nothing" - as you put it - is in the eye of the beholder ... why do you think there forums are full of gearheads that put emphasis on the last drop of quality? I started this thread because I found the sensor "interesting" ... nothning more, nothing less.

Cheers

You're making some excellent points, and the fuji is ticking a lot of boxes. I junked my SLR a lot of years ago as I could get all I wanted at that time from a camera that fit in my pocket and I'll do the same once convinced that my current kit has been superseded. I get no joy from carting kit around. Although I returned to an SLR at a later date and it was certainly necessary for digital quality in the early days, mirrorless has to be the way forward - I have little experience of using mirrorless, but look forward to the day when it replaces optical, no questions - and I'm sure that will happen.

Maybe nikon is wary of the big change and a D400 will never happen for that reason? Ebay is going to be totally stuffed with some very fancy DSLRs and lenses when the big change happens, which I'm sure it will.
