The top ten list from nonpartision Legatum Institute.

9. Switzerland
10. Ireland

I had a hard time to find one on the list that is NOT a "socialist", "income redistribute", "tax and spending" and "godless" country according to out right wing friends. Perhaps those are not bad things after all.

I'm sure this has nothing whatsoever to do with the result.  Nothing.  Nevertheless, I can't help but notice that the gargantua on that list has a population of about 10 percent of the U.S.  Most are in the 2-3 percent range.

I'm sure you're right.  I didn't read about the methodology for pegging happy and properous to a value on a scale, but let's just say that they're happier and better off economically than anyone else.  Still, in Finland, for example, you might sell out a baseball game if you gathered all the non-European minorities together and gave them tickets.

Is that the secret?  I don't know, but small homogenous populations present fewer sticky wickets.  In the U.S., for example, there are no individuals left.  None.  There are only identity groups.  The question on everyone's lips is, "What have you done for me lately?"

The specialty of politicians is to sell the message that "We're all in this together" while simultaneously making sure that "us" is sub-divided into squeaky wheel groups with grievances and then developing canned messages to pander to those groups.  It's great fun to watch.  Boring in it's repetitive predictability, but great fun.  In the main, politicians view progress and solutions in the same way that most people view bedbugs.  No victims to champion?  No villains to blame?  No job.
