I like the idea. It made me think of a great feature the Canon T90 had which allowed you to take up to 8 spot meter readings and the camera would use the average.

In this case, instead of averaging, it could take the sequence. The feature could be something like a "Spot Meter Sequencer".  It seems like this could be a more accurate way to do HDR bracketing to insure you nail the exposers in the highlights and shadows.

Another approach would be "Smart Bracket" where you take a spot reading of a highlight and another of a shadow then choose how many steps you want to cover the range.
