What I'd like to know..... in the Nikon camp ... Do you guys with the $5,000 + FX bodies have the same issues?

Sadly yes.  My D800E has BF errors and Nikon fixed two lenses.  So does my D7000 and they fixed it too.  Still, the BF issue remains with both bodies and most all of my lenses.

Here is the FoCal readout of the three "Trinity Gold Zooms" for amusement at three different zoom settings (an overlay shown for each range) of the three lenses.

FoCal has tabulated thousands of camera and lens combinations and is making available some online tool that shows the average setting for the most popular lenses and bodies their software sends back to them.  You can find their beta online tool on their Facebook page.  Nikon does seem to like BF for whatever reason with the exception of their 85mm lenses that FF.  Canon does far better in being near zero than Nikon too in their tool.  Their factory QC with regards to focus accuracy must be better then Nikon as their charts show. The Nikon D4 seems to fair better in focus matters too.

As more tests get sent to them from their software, I suspect Nikon will lose the "Accuracy of focus" against Canon.  I wish Nikon would allow us to tune a couple of points in our zooms like Canon and Olympus already allow for like here at the Wide and Tele end both as shown here in this Canon screenshot:

Hopefully, someday some firmware upgrade will allow for this mod - hopefully.
