17 vs. 20: user input needed

I've been contemplating a replacement of my Panasonic 20mm with the Olympus 17/1.8. Used to own the 17 pancake which I liked a lot but had to sell with the E-P2. I have mixed feelings about the 20. It is small, fast and sharp but also slightly too narrow for what I use it for. I'm not bothered about the slowish focusing or the banding problem.

I am seeking the opinion of those of you who have used both lenses: is the 17 significantly softer then the 20? Yes, I read the reviews but pixel peeping is way beyond my needs. I'm only interested in real world experience.
