Question about printing for the first time.

I've never printed anything I've done. If I were to start, what would be necessary to print photos from my computer? I'm assuming just a printer? And if so, any suggestions for a relatively inexpensive printer of good quality?

And obviously I'm going to want to use some type of photo paper?
