G5: Disappointing Battery Life

I shot an event this weekend. In 313 shots I drained the Lumix battery (obviously a new one) and a new third party (Synergy) battery, and half again on the original recharged battery. I was using the viewfinder, not the LCD at least 90% of the time, shot perhaps 6 flash shots, limited review, power off set at one minute. I shot RAW plus medium jpg.

This is far short of the reported 350 shots per battery charge. My partner shooting a Nikon took about the same number of pictures all on the original battery.

Is this typical performance? Any suggestions?
