This is only because your OVF is set to have a magnification of 1x at 50mm.  If you changed your OVF you could easily have it have a magnification of 1x at 35mm or 75mm, etc.  This is because of the optics in the OVF/EVF that it works out this way.  This has nothing to do with the magnification you see in the print or on the display.  So if you use the OVF to compose, and you want 1x magnification, then use a 50mm if that is what your viewfinder is designed for.  If composing live view this doesn't work the same way.
