There was an interesting note on the previous periods results:

"Newly introduced IS zoom lenses would seem to a repair just waiting to happen"

What I do find alarming is the cost of repairs for what is known to be the lenses weakpoint. I just sent in my 70-200 f4 IS for an IS repair and its estimated at GBP294. If you count the cashback offer, that's about half the original lens cost - just over a third of todays cost.

I think as performance goes up, its necessary to cut down on the over-engineering and so failure rates go up. IS units have to be light in order to move them quickly and accurately for the current 4-stop performance. They are going to be vulnerable to damage when they are operating and thus not clamped down.
