Are the differences between 24mm and 28mm significant?
Jan 19, 2013

I am trying to decide which of several lenses to keep and which to give up.

One of my dilemmas concerns the 24mm and 28mm focal lengths. I am a bit torn about keeping both the 24 2.8 IS and the 28 2.8 IS.

Some very experienced photographers in another thread expressed the view that there is not a practical difference between these lenses in use. However, to me the 24mm seems to have a sense of spaciousness that I prefer to the 28mm in more open settings, indoors and out. But the 28mm is usually kinder to faces and the appearance of people in the photo, which makes it more desirable to have when the picture is more about one person.

I wondered what other people thought. Are the differences between a 24mm and 28mm significant enough to have one of each? (I know it ultimately will depend on what I think--but I am curious about the views and experiences of others on this issue.)

Thanks for your thoughts.
