6D on submarine

Took the kids on a visit to the Maritime Museum. On the hottest day on record in Sydney (35.8 C), an old diesel electric submarine was a great refuge!
Backpacks not allowed due to all the ladders and hatches, I took the camera with 40mm 2.8 on board - no flash. It did an acceptable job under the circumstances.
If I had carried the flash I am not sure whether I could have done much better - lower ISO with all the benefits of this, but I suspect it would have been difficult to bounce and may not have reached my kid in the background which was my intended focus point. Direct flash would have resulted in ugly shadows from all the gauges.
Was focus and recompose, but I think I front-focused.
Suggestions, comments and criticism welcome.
slightly.
