The D5200 is just a D5100 with more pixels and focus points, so why would anyone with $900 in hand buy a lower tier D5200 when the D7000, (which is a superior camera for the advanced amateur/enthusiast photographer), for virtually the same cost?

Features the D7000 has that the D5200 lacks:

  • CLS wireless flash capability
  • In camera focus motor for AF with non-motorized lens
  • Bigger and better pentaprism OVF
  • More customization options, including U1 and U2 on mode dial.
  • Better metal build quality
  • Vertical grip option
  • More physical control points and assignable buttons
  • Larger weather sealed metal body with better grip and handling.

to name a few.

Frankly I don't see Nikon selling many of the D5200's with it's paltry feature set and current high price point compared to the D7000.  There is just too much missing from the D5200 to make it worth the current street price, IMO.
