There has been a lot of misinformation about the sX50HS' continuous shooting mode. There are several options.

1) normal continuous shooting: 2.2 fps Set in the regular menu.

2) continuous shooting with focus: .8 fps Set in the regular menu.

3) Normal High speed High Quality continuous Scene Mode: 10 frames at 13 fps, no focus or view between frames. Set in Scene Mode, using the function button.

4) High speed High Quality continuous Scene Mode with focus between frames: 4.4 fps with focus and view between frames. Set in Scene mode. Requires multiple use of the Function button.

To set #4, set the Control dial to SCN. Press Function and scroll to HQ Continuous. Press Function to lock the setting in. Press Function again and scroll down to the Continuous Shooting icon. By default it is on Normal continuous. Press the right control around the function button and set it to AF Continuous. Press Function to lock it in.

You only get the 4.4 fps in good light. Inside you might get 1-2 fps. It depends totally on how hard the Digic 5 processor has to work.

Thank you Stephen for the excellent explanation. I have one further question. Could you please advise the differences between (4) above and the camera's Sports Mode set to Cont shooting AF (the default in this mode). If I remember correctly from some previous posts the shooting speed in Sports Mode is also about 4 fps but the minimum focus distance is 13m. Why use sports mode at all if (4) above does the same thing without having a minumum focus distance drawback?
