Rebel T3i

HI people of camera land,

I am thinking of buying a rebel t3i but today I was working in a studio with a friend of mine and he said to expand upon other cameras as well in my price range.

does anyone have suggested cameras in about the 600-1000$ level?

I like canon but I am willing to look at other formats
