I am blown away by this Chinese brand called Fotopro. I know....I know....cheap Chinese made, probably disposable. I was put off too until I really looked at it. Very sturdy build. The joints are stiff. There's not much play. Compact....folds to about 15". Comes with a reasonable good ball head that is compatible with Arca Swiss, Kirk, RRS, Markins plates. Ball has good friction control. Independent pan swivel feature. One leg converts to a monopod. Center column is detachable so you can get close to ground.

In fact, it puts my Manfrotto 190 series to shame so I've switched to a Markins L Bracket for my D700. At the end of the day, it's a travel tripod and fits into the side of the hiking backpack, so it won't handle stiff winds. But the value is just thru the roof!!!

All for $200. Maybe hard to find though. I bought on sale at Henry's in Canada.
