Olympus 60mm f2.8 Macro is it all hype?

Thanks to everybody who has contributed. A lot of very interesting info here and on my other moving forward with macro post. The main thing I have learnt is that the reason why I couldn’t understand the worship of the 60mm was because people weren’t posting examples of the lens being used as I would often use it. Plenty of non macro shots and plenty of very fine detail 1:1s but few frame filling subjects in focus throughout , using small apertures as required

I like to take composed photos of small items, in my case insects. The overall picture is often more important to me than the macro detail.  Although the detail is important and I will use 1:1, much of what I take is less magnified 1:2 as an example.

So I was wrong the 60mm is clearly a great bit of kit and can handle macros as well as anything else.

So my reservations re buying it have disappeared but the question now as many people here have pointed out is  ”is it really going to give me anything better to justify  the price or should I just carry on with my ZD35” .
