I have never hosted a competition (time pressure) so I cannot speak from experience.   I suspect from reading this forum that those who try to manipulate voting outcomes do so by awarding 5’s to friends and very low scores to others, giving the lowest votes to images they think pose a threat to their friends’ images.   It seems to my untutored eye that individual voter’s marks in challenges that attracted more than, say, 30 entries should reflect a standard bell curve (reflecting the range of quality, rules compliance etc.) so that overall few are poor many are good, few are excellent).   Individuals voting as I have described above would produce an inverted ‘bell’ or a ‘U’ shape – making the strategy to favour one image and disadvantage others obvious in most if not all cases.   I am told that these voters can be identified manually or with appropriate software.   Does anybody think there is merit in disqualifying or discounting (i.e. set to zero) members’ votes where the distribution of their marks follows an inverted bell curve?
