Command dial and grid display on XE-1

Tried every combination with the command dial and the only thing that works is changing settings in the Q menu. It does not change focus point or magnify whether I push it in or not.

Another is the grid display. It is selected in the menu (the nine grid) but does not show up.

Feel mighty foolish because I played with many cameras, but these issues stomp me. Faulty camera?
