Try covering the hole with a small strip of adhesive tape - preferably of a type that isn't too flexible, or the spring-loaded contact in the flash foot will push down on it enough to put the flash in off-camera mode.

Interesting,i've never heard this one before, i will have mount the 20am on the powered down transmitter to see whether the hardware trigger exists.
