see if hp sells the epson 7900 cuz hp support is terrible and their printers are in dire need of a refresh.
Two 44" HP Z printers here with a total of 10 years use and an estimated DIY maintenance + repair cost of 800 Euro over that period. All functions still work including the integrated calibration and profiling. Best inkset available right now when you like good fade resistance. Not the fastest machine these days but that was not requested. If it has to be fast get a Canon iPF6400 and with a high printing volume you will get good Canon service if it uses OEM inks.
I actually think that the request aimed at a kind of desktop model which usually is not covering a width of 18". In that sense the Designjet 130 fits best of all wide formats, an 8 year old design still in the catalog for a good reason. Small footprint, excellent color gloss and matte, less fade resistant though, small carts, slow and not a good machine for B&W.
Ever seen the endless threads on head issues with Epson x900, 11880 models? Check this forum then: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?board=6.0 or the recent threads on the Yahoo Epson Wide Format mailing list. Read about Epson service in different countries in the threads.
