I just bought a D7000 that had severe back focus - my calibration software (Reikan FoCal) said the adjustment required was  -35 (-20 is the max).  In the end, because I'm impatient, I did this:

(It's not for the faint of heart, since you have to use an allen key within an inch of the exposed sensor)

For me the solution worked - I can now calibrate my lens within the normal adjustment range, and images look great.   But I have big questions about Nikon's quality control, since there have been many complaints on discussion boards like this one.
