My first 50mm/1.8 shots, as expected?

Keep in mind, that primes serve two purposes. Everyone wants to open them up to 1.8, or 1.2 and just leave them at that opening, because they want the bokeh. The problem is you're dealing with a DOF that leaves you focusing on the tip of the nose and leaving the eyes blurred. The vastly overlooked aspect of primes is that they are so much sharper than anything else in your bag. I've seen people suggest stopping down to 2.2. Good idea, but explore the lens at f4.0, where it is very capable of getting a ton of detail. I got it for the same reasons you did, but I've kept it around for the detail.
