My personal suggestion is learn Aperture and stick with it.  It's good now and will only get better.

I switched to Lightroom for the last four month because of all the hype but am returning to Aperture.  And this time I'm going to do it slightly different.

My biggest Aperture suggestion is:

DON'T let Aperture manager your library.

Let it REFERENCE the library.

Set up your photos by years and within that by projects.  This way, if you ever want to try Lightroom for example, your photos don't have to be exported by Aperture.  I learned the long tedious way.

I'll tell you.  I have spent hours upon hours watching great tutorials on Lightroom. But it is sooo clunky compared to Aperture.  Here's a quick example.  Want to quickly export that image to your Facebook wall?  Easy in Aperture.  Not doable in Lightroom.  You can license a plug-in to export to Facebook for Lightroom but it doesn't allow you to push to your wall.  Just one of the many irritating aspects of the program.
