Olympus 60mm f2.8 Macro is it all hype?

I'm not sure that I agree with your first statement Greg, I think I'm allowed to compare results from differing formats if for no other reason to see if my current gear is giving me value for money.  Also comparison doesn't come down all against the 60mm. The detailis are going to be better on the larger sensor, it's just that I don't take shots just for the detail and it's in the whole photo stakes that I feel that the 60mm is a let down.

It was the Robin Wong review that started me off on my current train of thought. I would have binned the very first damselfly shot because it is unpleasant to look at . The way that the rear end and the branch end fall so catastrophically out of focus despite being very close to the head in distance from the camera is awful.  I'm not expecting perfection these are difficult shots and getting the whole subject in focus is diificult but in this case the effect is horrible.

Similarly in the case of the brown butterfly with the green spots,what is it a photograph of? an eye and a small part of the wing maybe, but certainly not a butterfly.
