Is post production sharpening necessary with D800E?

But probably with the in camera picture control sharpening sharpening applied (unless further sharpening steps are applied by what you call "gurus") which is not ideal for D800/E pre-sharpening. Did you undo the picture control sharpening before applying what the "gurus" recommended?

I am not on a mission of any kind, was just interested in why the capabilities of Lightroom would outshine other RAW editors regarding sharpening.

As to sharpening of D800E files I don't have that version. Settled on the D800 after playing around with NEFs from both cameras from the web before making my decision. I am used to capture sharpening fro previous DSLRs so the decision was easy.

I would be happy to play  with any original NEF file you can provide and compare what we both can achieve with different RAW converters.
