Re: Please recommend a Flash for OMD

I have an OM-D and one thing I haven't seen anyone mention yet is that not all flashes support the 1/250 sync speed. I have a couple of Metz 48 AF-1 units which I got used for ~$100 which I like for the most part, but they max out at either 1/160 or 1/180 (I forget). Faster sync speeds give you more leeway to control the ambient-flash light balance (go read the Strobist 101 articles and you'll understand why). If you're doing daylight/outdoor location shooting, faster sync is better. And to make a long story short, while the FP mode is useful, it's not as good as non-FP sync.
Also, one disappointment with the Metz units is that they do not support manual mode, only TTL. TTL is good, but I'd have rather had both, and since they supported TTL, I assumed they would support manual as well. Given all these shortcomings I would not buy them again, though getting two very usable, good-quality units for less than the cost of one FL-600R I'm not really complaining. I have some small hopes that Metz will support manual mode with a firmware update someday.
