Of course the top quality Nikon converter (TC-E17ED) required for SX50 level results is both very rare and costs the earth even secondhand - these days you`d be lucky to get one for HALF the price of the FZ200 and that`s if you can find one - I`ve not seen a TC-E17ED for sale in the UK in over 2 years . teh TC-E15 (which still will run over £50) isn`t in the same class and isn`t common either - the big heavy Olys from the E10/20 haven`t the magnification, the higher mag ones, haven`t the quality .. Also TCs take the fun out of these megazooms, did all that back in the UZI/FZ20 days (wide converters also) not going back there ....

Closeups are a doddle with the SX50 using 58mm dual element macro adapters , lens speed isn`t as big an issue as it looks due to better high ISO performance and that Macros don`t move much
