Jack, Pal2012, Dirk, etc have all proved it works and I must say IMO works pretty well. So we lose a small amount of light........... better say for a nature / sports shooter in good light that is. We can always adjust to suit anyway.
If you get bored quick, don't bother reading further than this.
The reason its interesting from a nature and sports shooters point of view, is because of the lens availability for NEX with the adaptors and PDAF for tracking. All of a sudden a new world opens up with lenses. To hear it AF's fairly fast along with having CDAF and to know that certain Sigma lenses offer OIS is excellent. We now have a range to choose from for good optics for sports and nature.
M/43 misses on those points as well. the lenses are just not there.......... yet. Same as for Sony native NEX lenses, they are just not there for those subjects.
What most probably don't know, is that we do have a pro shooter in this forum that also covers sports. They have used the new Sony 500mm F/4.5 and the adaptor on a 5N. Mostly he uses Sony DSLR's naturally. I know he's here somewhere
So now we have the expensive Sony 500mm F/4.5 that can be mounted to this setup as well as all the Minolta's. That's an amazing amount of lenses folks. Dare I say more than any other system ??.
So why go the adaptor route, well its easy really and especially for longer focal lengths, we shoot in good light so no OIS or IBIS is needed (talking about action shots here), nice to have when the light drops and we hit the static subject s though for sure.
Why not go to a FF DSLR. because then we don't have the ability to mount legacy lenses with glassless adaptors. So we get the best of 4 worlds.
1: Minolta lenses (older for sure)
2: Native NEX lenses (not exactly over abundant)
3: Sony DSLR's (via the adaptors)
4: Legacy MF lenses (gotta love it)
There you go, if read all that, then you are like me and have too much time on your hands. Go out a shoot.
Danny.

Two things, Minolta made some great and under appreciated lenses (your point 1). Also, focusing with an SLT or adapter during video is smoother than most can do manually and doesn't have that in and out effect you get with CDAF. Anyone who shoots video will love it.
