I'm not a chemist or metallurgist, but from my experience and observations I would say other than magnesium alloys abilities  to dissipate heat, resistance abrasion, weight, and perception of toughness,  polycarbonates are an amazing material for cameras.  Shock and impact resistant/absorbant, retains shape from impact, light weight, and offers good insulation from the elements.   I have seen polycarbonate items go through extreme abuse yet retaining its shape and usability.  Great stuff  BUT... I personally prefer the feeling of a metal body in hand
