Help with Nikon Coolscan V ED

Kicking myself a bit because its just dawned on me that we have some computers here at work still running Widows XP, and I could have tried my scanner here with the Nikon software which came with the scanner.  I had it in the office this morning to pack it up for posting to Fixnation.

Ah well, I guess the first thing Fixnation will do is check its operation and perhaps they can do that with the Nikon software, and the thing could no doubt benefit from a good clean if nothing else (and I could yet find there is a hardware issue of course).
