Also, I watched the Emily Soto video that you posted.  If you're going to use that technique, note the following:

Creating an Apply Image layer (which she did multiple times in the video) covers up your previous edits so that they can't be modified.  You can add more edits to the Applied Image layer or start back at the beginning, but you can't modify or remove a previous edit.  Adding edits on top of edits (i.e. darken then lighten the same area) introduces noise, pixelation, etc.  Plus there's no way to alter some edits like blur once you create an Apply Image layer.  It's not a good technique to use often.
