The grip for the 650 makes a big difference. I have used my 70-200/2.8 L IS Mk 1 with it. Don't know if I could use this lens without the grip.
As for the 7D, it is a technological marvel. There are a lot - I mean aaaa loooot - of features to it. Some I haven't fully explored yet. Others, I use but haven't learned the full potential of them.
