What System Meets My Many Needs?

I am tempted to wait for that fabled Nikon D400.

I believe that I shall have to accept the fact that I am not going to get what I want (may I stamp my feet in a petulant manner?) without a number of compromises.

I am tempted by the two camera scenario, but don't want to lose that shot of the camel being eaten by the dragon 300 metres away, so think I shall end up with the one camera and accept that I shall have to go on vacation with no clothes (that should scare the wildlife and people away.  It will give them all nightmares). A horrible thought.

I am tempted therefore to go for the Nikon Holy Trinity for travelling with (or another cocktail of lenses as has been suggested), but with additional lenses for when I am not travelling and can throw a few lenses and such like in to the car.
