Of course, if I were spending that much and going that deep I think I'd more inclined to go the full hog and take a bigger camera/sensor down there with me. The weight can't make that much difference and a larger sensor would be invaluable at such depth I imagine.

If you're going deep, then the sensor wouldn't be as important as you would have to use a strobe to capture anything. Below 20m even in the clearest of waters you go into deep blue and you have to use a strobe really in which case I assume the ISO wouldn't be that high. The deeper depth of field of the small sensor would probably be a plus as well.
