I think you're right.  However, the buffer doesn't need to clear entirely for the camera to be usable again.

I'd still like a somewhat larger buffer on my NEX-7 (or whatever replaces it).  I'd like to be able to take two or three consecutive bursts of three (bracketed) shots before having to wait for the buffer to clear sufficiently to take another burst of three shots.
