P.P.S. After shooting the London New Year's Day Parade with the RX100 (5DmkII in previous years) I do find there is a bigger gap between it and the 5DmkII than I'd like (although another side-effect of the show is I'm lusting after the 5DmkIII AF even more).
Features I'd want:
(1) A zoom lens, stuff isn't always at a suitable distance for a 35mm lens (in both directions). With the GF1 I would take the 14-140 (28-280 equiv) and the 20/1.7 (for when it got darker) on holiday. Worked great. I could add the 100-300 and it still weighed less than the 5DmkII with the 24-105.
(2) Built-in WiFi. It's annoying at events to have to use the iPhone to let friends see what's going on. A Panasonic GH3 is an idea, the body is annoyingly large, but the lenses are small and light. Oh, and even worse is something amazing happening while you're taking that iPhone pic...
(3) Ideally a flip-around screen for over-head photography at events. (Don't get me started on 5DmkII live-view AF.)
(4) Good ISO 400 in low light and ISO 800 in daylight. "Good" in the sense that if shooting with a prime I can zoom by cropping and there is detail without much noise. Oh, and not the often-used forum "good" that it looks okay when shrunk to 0.5-1.0MP and posted. The Fuji 16MP sensors do fine here.
(5) Decent AF (m43 is way way ahead of everyone else, with the E-M5 and GH3, as long as you don't want focus tracking).
(6) Longer lenses that are of reasonable quality and fairly compact (the m43 suffers here, the 100-300 is more okay than good, the EOS-M has a stellar selection, but they tend to be identical in size to light-grey Canon glass). One of the plusses of a smaller sensor interchangeable lens camera is shooting wildlife non-professionally without having to do weights for a year first (yes, I have some big light-grey Canon lenses - note the m43 100-300, 200-600 equiv, is 5" long).
