Real benifits of color calibrated screen?

I've recently been thinking about ways of editing photos when traveling, and have been considering the various laptop and tablet options, and getting a convertible windows 8 machine with lightroom etc and the thing that I always come up against are the comments and the thought that I'll be editing photos on a non calibrated screen.

It started to make me think though, just how important is a calibrated screen. Yes, for prints I can see the benifit, but any editing I do whilst traveling will be for posting on facebook or blogs. Is there really any benifit to doing this on a calibrated screen? Part of me would even think it might be better to do it on a normal consumer screen, seeing as this is what the pictures will almost inevitably be viewed on so I may as well optimise them for such a device.

Am I going crazy or does this seem sort of logical? If so it will make buying desicions alot easier
