What you way is true, Godfrey, but the outer portion of the old focusing screens was never as easy or as accurate to use as the center section. The GXR system, particularly Mode 2 magnified, is a very accurate focusing system. But for me is it clumsy to have to switch to a full screen Mode 2 magnified, focus, and then switch back to a normal view for framing (at least I find this true for "fast" work). I did find your suggestion to retain the shooting mode from shot to shot very helpful.
Again, I would prefer a normal view with a center section focusing aid, much as in the old film reflex (or rangefinder) cameras. To each his own, I guess.
