no thats normal and common to all phase detect systems... that was normal 25 years ago in the F4

and is still normal today..

in that case the camera does not lock because its overshooting in both directions thats what you are seeing as hunting... something that is even worse in contrast detect systems...

In those cases you use something in the same distance as a target.. or go to manual focus...

AF is not failproof its just 30 x better then not having it at all !

BUT cross sensors are always better then non cross...
