With all of this in mind, let me ask a question.  I recently started shooting some high school basketball games with my D600 (and often the 85 f.8 D, but also a 180 f2.8 D) and found that on many shots, the relatively closer player is out of focus and the background, often fans, are in focus. This often happens when the player is running at me from the other end of the court.  The kit lens is not fast enough, even though I am shooting at 3200 iso.

I have been familiar with the problem since I started shooting karate with my D200, but had mostly licked the problem by shooting AFC- Center Point.

Although I have a D300s, I never shot karate with it, so any evolution that is there, I missed.

So rather than have you critique my settings (when they work, the shots have been awesome) let me ask...you are sitting at one end of the court, behind a basket,  with the D600 and the 85mm f 1.8.  What settings would you use?

Thanks in advance...

John
