The numbers do not really mean much without a context. You, Anders, and many others probably have plenty of your own knowledge to create such a context, but there's also many people who don't. Reviews such as here help other people to get to where you are now.

You are of course right that the comments are not superfluous, e.g., because they help people develop a frame of reference before they have a sufficient pool of prior observations of their own. On the other hand, it's important to realize that the comments are not always perfectly balanced and that the same set of facts may lead to rather different summary evaluations on the reviewer's part.

Years ago, Ansel Adams proclaimed that all modern lenses were good enough to take excellent photos with. This review and all others are splitting hairs among lenses are good enough already. In this and other internet forums, members proclaim one lens as trash and the other godhead... when in fact, the differences are rarely enough to be noticed on a print or full image posted to the web.
