I use my U2412M for FPS gaming.  It is fast enough for that.  YouTube videos of soccer and hockey highlights look good.

There are LCD gaming monitors out there with 120Hz scan rates but my experience with LCD HDTV's is that many of these, if not correctly configured, will offer an image that looks like an old school soap opera TV series - what is known as the "soap opera effect". I'm not even sure this can be an issue with a PC monitor displaying streamed video.

For sports this may be OK.  I doubt a PC monitor will have the breadth of hardware controls via the monitors OSD menu to allow you to increase or decrease the soap opera effect.  Most high end HDTV's do.

Regardless, you should investigate these issues.
